SUMMARY:An Event Model for Trace-Based Performance Analysis of MPI Partiti
 oned Point-to-Point Communication
DESCRIPTION:Isabel Thärigen and Marc-André Hermanns (RWTH Aachen Universit
 y) and Markus Geimer (Forschungszentrum Jülich)\n\nThe MPI 4.0 standard in
troduced the concept of partitioned point-to-point communication. One fac
et that may help in encouraging application developers to use this new con
cept in their programs is the availability of proper tool support in a tim
ely manner. We therefore propose nine new events extending the OTF2 event
model to accurately represent the runtime behavior of partitioned point-t
o-point communication. We then demonstrate the suitability of these exten
sions with three different use cases in the context of performance analysi
 s. In particular, we showcase a prototype implementation of an extended w
aitstate analysis in the Scalasca trace analyzer, and discuss further pote
ntial use cases in the realm of trace visualization and simulation.\n\nTag
