SUMMARY:High Performance Computing for Environmental and Earth Sciences
DESCRIPTION:Sameh Abdulah (King Abdullah University of Science and Technol
ogy (KAUST)); Didem Unat (Koç University, Turkey); Ebru Bozda (Colorado Sc
hool of Mines); Auroop Ganguly (Northeastern University); and Andreas Hert
en (Forschungszentrum Jülich)\n\nThe growth of climate and earth data brin
gs a pressing need to enhance techniques for its handling with HPC. This i
s crucial for our understanding of the coupling between the solid Earth, a
tmosphere, hydrology, and oceans, enabling proactive responses to extremes
through improved forecasting of weather, climate change, and sudden disas
ters like earthquakes. This BoF will discuss the HPC community’s interface
with earth data and related engagements of stakeholder communities in cli
mate, environmental, and Earth sciences, including the mathematics and spa
tial statistics that are involved. It endeavors to begin a targeted approa
ch to the democratization of HPC for earth sciences.\n\nTag: Applications\
