SUMMARY:First Steps toward Adopting Direct Liquid Cooled HPC
DESCRIPTION:Dave Martinez (Sandia National Laboratories, Energy Efficient
HPC Working Group); David Sickinger (National Renewable Energy Laboratory
(NREL), Energy Efficient HPC Working Group); Sammy Zimmerman (NVIDIA Corpo
ration); Nevil Joseph Silverius (Queen's University, Canada); Chris Tanner
(NASA); Chris DePrater (Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), En
ergy Efficient HPC Working Group); David Grant (Oak Ridge National Laborat
ory (ORNL), Energy Efficient HPC Working Group); Tim Shedd (Dell Technolog
ies Inc); Karsten Kutzer (Lenovo); and Steve Martin (Hewlett Packard Enter
prise (HPE))\n\nLiquid cooling mitigates the effects of heat density, redu
ces energy consumption and increases performance. It is now a requirement
to stay on the chip technology roadmap. After a decade's experience with l
iquid cooling in large-scale supercomputing centers, many data centers are
still facing challenges with adoption. Building on deep expertise from m
ajor supercomputing centers, this BoF will present recommendations for ini
tial adoption of direct liquid cooling (DLC). See https://sites.google.co
m/lbl.gov/ee-hpc-wg-liquid-cooling/home. There will be presentations on e
xperiences from sites that have just adopted DLC. We are expecting a lot
of audience discussion and networking that extends beyond the BoF.\n\nTag:
