SUMMARY:Introducing MPI 4.1, the Newest Version of the Message Passing Int
 erface Standard
DESCRIPTION:Martin Schulz (Technical University Munich, Computer Architect
ure and Parallel Systems; Leibniz Supercomputing Centre); William Gropp (U
niversity of Illinois, National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NC
SA)); Quincey Koziol (Amazon Web Services); Howard Pritchard (Leibniz Supe
rcomputing Centre (LANL)); Jim Dinan (NVIDIA Corporation); and Joseph Schu
chart (University of Tennessee)\n\nThe Message Passing Interface (MPI) API
is the most dominant programming approach for HPC environments. Its speci
fication is driven by the MPI forum, an open forum consisting of MPI devel
opers, vendors and users. Just before SC23, the MPI forum published the la
test version of the standard, MPI 4.1. We will take a look at the new feat
ures and will discuss what this means for the user of MPI. However, MPI 4.
1 is not the end of the MPI standard – the forum is already working toward
MPI 5.0 and we will discuss ideas, directions and will feedback from the
community.\n\nTag: Programming Frameworks and System Software\n\nRegistrat
