SUMMARY:Quantum Computing Case Study in Aerospace Field
DESCRIPTION:Naoyuki Fujita and Yuusuke Takemoto (Japan Aerospace Explorati
on Agency (JAXA)); Susumu Takatsu (TRC Inc.); and Yasuyuki Nishibayashi, M
itsuhiro Hashimoto, Ryo Sakurai, Mitsuharu Takeori, Takahiro Yamamoto, and
Jiayun Zhu (IBM Japan)\n\nWith the demise of Moore’s empirical law, we ca
nnot expect a dramatic improvement in computer performance in the future,
but the need for supercomputer in JAXA for numerical simulation and data p
rocessing etc. continues to rise. Until now, general-purpose CPUs have bee
n exclusively used, but there is an urgent need to seriously consider the
use of dedicated computers and new architectures. One candidate is a quant
um computer.\n\nIn order to study the feasibility of a quantum computer as
a candidate for a new architecture, the Gate-Model Quantum Computer Study
Group was established with JSS3: JAXA Supercomputer System generation 3 u
sers as the main members, which examined the possibility of applying Gate-
Model Quantum Computing technology to JAXA's technical problem areas, and
will assist management in making mid to long-term decisions regarding comp
uting resources.\n\nThe Group organized use cases created in workshops and
gained insight into the effects of utilizing quantum technology.\n\nTag:
