SUMMARY:Boosting Neuroscience Research with High Performance Computing Inf
 rastructure
DESCRIPTION:Sandra Diaz Pier (Forschungszentrum Jülich)\n\nNeuroscience ha
s become a highly interdisciplinary research field, including among others
purely experimental studies, applied technology development, mathematical
theory, computational models and simulations, AI, visualization and data
analysis. However, neuroscience is relatively new to the usage of High Per
formance Computing. Within the European Flagship project, the Human Brain
Project, scientists from all around Europe have made substantial progress
in consolidating the computational requirements and usage patterns of this
heterogeneous field. In parallel with the evolution of the European HPC l
andscape, neuroscience has also helped co-design the federated access to H
PC, cloud, and data resources through the ICEI project, in collaboration w
ith the FENIX-RI – a European effort to provide federated access to some o
f the largest HPC centers in Europe. \n\nIn this talk, I will provide a ge
neral overview of the evolving relationships between neuroscience and HPC.
I will also present some examples of scientific highlights which have bee
n made possible by this interaction. Finally, I will provide a perspective
of how neuroscience can contribute to future technology co-design keeping
in focus societal impact. I will complement this talk with my personal st
ory and international experiences.\n\nTag: Applications, Biology, Medicine
